What is a CSA?

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  A CSA is a community of consumers that support a farmer and share the crop that he/she produces.

The concept is simple.  You buy a 'share' of our vegetable crop pre-season and this allows us to purchase seeds and supplies and to plan the crop.  You then visit a central pick-up site in Camrose, Sherwood Park or Edmonton weekly during the growing season to gather your share of the incredibly fresh and delicious offerings that we have grown and harvested for you.

As a CSA member, you become an integral part of creating a sustainable food economy in Alberta and you enjoy fresh, local produce throughout the season.  Each season is unique and you share in the risks and rewards that each year brings.

At Sunhill Gardens we plant extra rows, beyond our needs for the CSA, to provide fresh produce to food banks and programs in Camrose and Sherwood Park.  In 2011, thanks to the support of our members and customers, we were able to donate over 3000 lbs of fresh produce.

Great Quality

At Sunhill, we have been producing delicious, high quality produce for several years. We grow a wide variety of vegetables and herbs without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers.  The vegetables that we deliver to you are washed, if appropriate, and are ready to rinse and use.  Check out the photos on this site or on our Facebook Page to see examples of our produce.

Lots of Food

Our CSA shareholders receive a generous weekly share of produce in season for about 12 weeks starting in the middle of July. Our full shares feed a group of 4-6 people or a smaller family who love vegetables. Our half shares feed 2-3 people or a veggie-loving individual.

We offer some opportunity for choice to allow you to minimize the things that you don’t want and maximize the things you do. We also encourage you to try new things. You may discover a new favourite!

Convenient Pick-Up

A limited number of shares are offered for three pick-up locations:

Camrose: Tuesdays from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
Sherwood Park: Thursdays from 5:00-7:00 p.m.
Edmonton: Saturdays from 9:30-11:00 a.m.
You may designate an alternate person to pick up your share for weeks that you can’t make it or are on holidays. Unclaimed shares will be donated to local food programs.

Opportunities to Get Into the Garden

Spending time with like-minded people in beautiful surroundings is an important and rewarding part of the CSA experience. We give you opportunities to get into the garden, to meet other members, to support us in our work and to see how your food is grown.

We realize that, for various reasons, not everyone is able to take part in the work of the garden so we offer the choice of shares with and without 'garden time'.

Reasonable Price

You will find that the price you pay for the food you receive is similar to the grocery store, but the taste and quality are far superior.  With a 'garden time' share the price works out to $8-9 per person per week for a generous amount of food.  For 2012 there are four share options available:

Half Share with Garden Time  $325.00
(feeds 2-3 people or a veggie-loving individual and one person volunteers at the farm for a total of 6 hours during the season)

Half Share without Garden Time   $385.00
(feeds 2-3 people or a veggie-loving individual and no volunteer time is required)

Full Share with Garden Time   $595.00
(feeds 4-6 people or a smaller family that love veggies and two people volunteer at the farm for a total of 6 hours each during the season)

Full Share without Garden Time   $695.00
(feeds 4-6 people or a smaller family that love veggies and no volunteer time is required)

You have the choice to pay in full by cheque, email transfer or Paypal (a 3% Paypal fee will be applied) or to make two to four equal instalment payments by cheque or email transfer.  Information about how to submit payment is included in your signup confirmation email.
